The Bird-shit Border Agent

I can practically hear the bird laughing

as the pasty splotch lands on the guard's shoulder.

His nameplate is etched “DiLillo,”

but he will forever be known in future

retellings as the “the bird-shit border agent”.

I stare at the chalky Rorschach blot

as he thumbs through my passport,

and imagine the winged revolutionary

soaring somewhere above El Paso

peering down at all the sophisticated humans.
